Albertson, Robert, Sr.

Robert Albertson Sr., son of Eugene and Ilma (Peggy), brother of Eugene Jr. Born March 3, 1936 the same year Bethpage was born. No longer Central Park.

Bob attended Powell Avenue School, St. Paul's Lutheran Church and in 1950 attended Farmingdale High School, as Powell Avenue school only provided education for K - 8th grade.

At Farmingdale High School Bob met his future wife, Ann Donhauser. Married in 1956 and three sons added to the Albertson family - Robert Jr., John, Kurt. Bob Sr. and Bob Jr. followed in the family tradition as Bethpage Fire Department volunteers where Bob served as Captain of Company #1 and active member of the Drive Committee, and all the Albertson's were employed by Grumman Corporation for a time. Bob Sr. retired from Grumman Corp. after 36 years of employment, where his talents and skills were acknowledged with Sterling Awards, Bob Jr. went on to work for Bethpage Federal Credit Union, John a NBC news photographer, Kurt retired from the NYPD.

Bob married Colleen Sullivan Heim; John married Maraya Gallo and Jack, Colette, and Milena were added to the Albertson Family Tree; Kurt married his Bethpage High School sweetheart, Teresa Weber, and children Stephen and Meghan to follow.

Ann managed the family and involved in her church, St. Martin of Tours, and the children's schools. She was one of the organizers and introduced Special Education PTA (SEPTA) to the Bethpage School District. A proud member and officer in the Central Park Historical Society. Employed by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Proud to accept honor as a Life Member in the PTA and awarded Town of Oyster Bay 2019 Women of distinction.


A proud Grummanite, as he worked for the Grumman Corporation for 36 years and amongst other accomplishments, had his hands on every F-14 Tomcat fighter jet manufactured. He was honored to serve in the New York National Guard for six years. Ex-Captain of Engine Company one, Drive Committee member and firefighter with the Bethpage Volunteer Fire Department. A board member and instrumental in organizing the Central Park Historical Society where his vast knowledge of Bethpage was invaluable.

Later in life, he accepted and was welcomed into the Catholic faith at Saint Martin of Tours Church. Bob and the late George Hoban were known as the carpenters of the Nazareth Carpenter Shop at St. Martin of Tours Church. With their combined talents, they designed and built many projects that benefited the parish and worshipers. At home, Bob enjoyed his workshop, tinkering, his garden, home, and journeys around Long Island with his wife, Ann. He was always available to lend a hand, his knowledge or his power tools.

He will be remembered as a good neighbor, a supporter of his community, a true friend and a man who cherished his wife and family.

Bob passed away from his home and family on - March 18, 2020. His son, John, wrote the following - Bob was a third generation Bethpagian and stalwart supporter of his beloved hometown where he lived the entirety of his life.

Sadly, Bob passed away at the beginning of COVID-19, therefore, there was no wake or funeral. Ann became infected with COVID-19 the following week, and was a lucky survivor.
