Growing up in Bethpage is something I am so grateful for and think of my happy childhood often. When I think of Bethpage I think of my Dad, Joe Cappellino. Dad was a custodian at the Bethpage Jr. High School for about 25 years He also worked at the Bethpage Jewish Center for pretty much the same time. I worked at the Bethpage Jewish Center for pretty much the same time. I guess I should mention he also did part time work for Dentist, Dr. Augenstien (sp?) He would go to the Temple early, then go back to the school to work, then on certain days would stop at the Dentist office. Interesting fact, Dad never had a drivers license. He walked from our home on Cambridge Ave. all those years. When we kids learned to drive, he let us help him out occasionally. We often referred to him as "The Mayor" of Bethpage because he knew so many people due to his jobs. After work you could always find him in Patsy's Bakery for the dinner loaf of Italian bread then s stop by, in the early years, the Pine Lodge, later on at the CPI. There he would enjoy the end of his work day and fun with friends. If my best friend Linda Steimer (now Peterson) came by the bar, the end of the Italian bread would be missing by the time he arrived home. He was a special man and anyone who remembers him will agree. We lost dad in 1985 and the void will never be filled, but my memories are intact and always happy. Currently living in North Carolina
