The fund raiser started as a lark in 1988 from a challenge made by construction workers to take on Gary Bretton and his group at a sport with moneys realized to go toward a needy cause. The concept appealed to Gary, and a date was set for a football game. As a result, $3,100.00 was raised for the needy in Bethpage. The challenge has grown with the community support and encouragement, and in 1999 $50,000.00 was raised! Gary and the board are in touch with local churches, synagogues, schools, organizations, and neighbors who see a concern for a neighbor in need and contact Gary and the board. The needs vary with the individual, and the respect for confidentially of all is of utmost importance. Gary is proud to report that those who at one time received help turned out to be great supporters of the endeavor. The project runs full circle.
