Recently promoted to the rank of acting captian, Randolph J. Friedman is now with the Army of Occupation in Japan and attended a dinner there in honor of Major Alex Seversky, former Long Island air ace, according to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Friedman of Windhurst Avenue.

Captain Friedman had been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic action in the European Theatre. His citation reads in part: "First Lt. Randolph J. Friedman, Co. A, 322nd Engineers Combat Battalion, 97th Division, distinguished himself by heroic action against an armed enemy. The first platoon, Lt. Friedman commanding, had as its mission the boating of infantry across the Sieg River, the building of a foot bridge and the erection of a trail ferry near Siegburg, Germany, the night of 9 - 10 April, 1945.

"Throughout the entire operation Lt. Friedman was under sparadic enemy mortar, artillery and small arms fire, and his devotion to duty was a great inspiration to his men and contributed greatly to the success of the mission."
