Below is an account of the beginning of the Grumman Retiree Club and information on the Scholarship Program as prepared for the celebration at the Bethpage Library at the 50 Anniversary of the Lunar Landing at the Bethpage Library July 16 - July 19, 2019.

The idea the Grumman Retiree Club (GRC) started when Bob Benn, of the Grumman Athletic Association, sent letters to all retirees. The first meeting took place on October of 1967. It was initially planned to be held in the Plant 28 auditorium, but so many retirees showed up that it warranted a venue change to Plant 30. Obviously, the idea of a Retiree Club was met with overwhelming support and the club was officially founded.

The GRC established a scholarship program in 1997 for the children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren of members across the country who are graduating from high school and attending a college or university in the same year as the award. Funding for these scholarships is completely dependent on donations from members, and has been continues to come from annual donations from the club itself and from the Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

The director of the Scholarship Fund evaluate each applicant using a weighted scoring system that emphasizes both academic performance, school and community involvement.

Though not all applicants receive a scholarship, the Fund's directors and the members of the club perceive all the applicants a winners. What is seen in each application is a person who works hard to make herself or himself a better person intellectually and, more importantly, the best possible contributor to society. The maturity, goals, ambitions and career objectives of these young people make us all proud of this coming generation.

The (GRC) is open to both active and retired members of the Northrop Grumman Community. Club Website at - www.grummanretireeclub.org
