Guthiel, Bernice

Mrs. Bernice Guthiel of the Butehorn Bros. VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary was crowned Queen of Bethpage, at ceremonies held in commemoration of the 21st Anniversary of the naming of Bethpage from Central Park. Mrs. Isabelle Kelly was Matron of Honor in charge of the Queen. The Queen was chosen by popularity vote in which all of Bethpage participated. Miss Helen Miller, who reigned as Queen of Bethpage for eleven years, placed the crown on the new Queens head. Little Diane Reardon was Crown Bearer and tiny Lorraine Sullivan carried a red satin robe which was placed on the Queens shoulders when crowned. "The Faculty Five" of the Bethpage High School, Karl Hupprich, Earl White, Gene Parvis, Rosario Coletta, and Bob Wagner played the music for the Grand March. Dancing followed to end the evening and the week long celebration of Bethpage.
