John (Jack) Looney

Jack a lifelong Central Park/Bethpage resident and a Long Island aviation pioneer. He was partner in Zahn's Airport, Amityville. He was co-owner of the Amityville Flying Service where he trained thousands of student pilots under the GI Bill, and he operated the Babylon Seaplane Base in Babylon.

Jack received his pilot's license at the old Roosevelt Field at the age of 19, and went on to teach hundreds of students to fly. His father set aside part of the family farm, in Central Park, for an air strip for a flying service. He became a proficient stunt pilot and participated in local air shows.

He also served on the Cove Neck Police Department.

Jack died on March 31, 1994
