Looney, Harold

Harold began his career with the Nassau County Police Department as a foot patrolman in 1939. He rose through the ranks and served as a Precinct Commander, Division Commander and First Deputy Chief of Patrol. He is among five Looney brothers and two nephews who have served with distinction on the county police force.

A graduate of St. John's University, he attended the New York State Police Training Academy in Troy, New York and finished second in his class. In 1945 he was awarded the department's highest commendation of the Calderone Meal of Valor, for placing his life in jeopardy by apprehending four burglars.

Active in the Bethpage community and is former Chief of the Bethpage Fire Department.
