Melone Family

Dr. Charles P. local physician, and for many years school physician. Wife Elvira was a member of the Bethpage Board of Education. Dr. Melone lived and had his practice on Broadway near Powell Avenue. Three sons: Joseph, Frank (member of the professional staff at Central Blvd. School), Charles P. Jr. also a doctor. (Bethpage History by Rosalie Walsh Niemczyk)


Below information from THE TOMAHAWK, Vol. 4, No. 15, dated Thursday, April 15, 1954

Mrs. Elvira Melone has served as president of the Bethpage PTA and is now an honorary life member. She organized the first Cub Scout pack in Bethpage, and was instrumental in the organization of the Bethpage Adult Education program. She shared the rsponsibility for the organization of the summer recreation program and the winter education program for Bethpage children and was infulential in the establishment of the Bethpage PTA Scholarship Fund. She has served as chairman of the Red Cross and Cancer Fund drives. Currently she is the safety chairman on the Board of Managers for the western Long Island district of the New York State Congress of Parent and Teachers, also a charter member of the Boy Scout Mothers of Troop #118.

This information was provided when Mrs. Melone was running for a seat on the Bethpage Board of Education. In a prepared statement, Mrs. Melone stated that she would favor annual pre-budget hearing: a complete study of present and future school needs, taking into consideration at all times, the ability of the taxpayer to pay; a publicized open door policy at school board meetings; more publicity concerning school board meetings and agends; regular publication of the board's business to the district; the development of activity programs which utilize constructively the out of school time of students on split sessions, particularly those pupils above the fifth grade; full time sessions for pupils in the public schools; full cooperation with local community recreational groups; the attracting of and retaining of the best qualified teacher personnel.

Joseph Talbot Melone 1937 - 2006 Son of Dr. Charles P. and Elvira Melone. Faithful husband to Vinnie and proud father of Teresa, Melinda, Joseph, Barbara and Michael. Brother and best friend of Mr. Frank Melone and Dr. Charles P. Melone, Jr. Alumnus of Georgetown, 1959. Graduate of St. John's Law School and respected member of the New York and California bars.
