Schiavetta, Daniel

Died on April 23, 2003. Beloved Husband of Delphine, Loving Father of Daniel Jr., Stephen, Christine Stratford, Mary, Ann and Michael. Fond brother of Louis. Cherished grandfather of Daniel, Thomas, Zack, Virginia, Stephen, Christopher and Kuedelin. Began his teaching career in Farmedge School in Levittown and later at the Bloomingdale Avenue school. He later moved on to the Kramer Lane School.

Danny a long time resident, school teacher, businessman, charter member and past president of the Central Park Historical Society. Danny is very proud of our community and the many people who make our community special. As he acknowledged when asked the question, on a chance meeting, in King Kullen when a resident realized Danny came to Central Park in 1933, "I bet this was the sticks at that time!" Danny pondered that statement and shared with us his reflections of growing up in Bethpage and the people who made this community special: the merchants, schools, churches, railroad, restaurants, cider mill, golf course, ball fields, friends and the impact the community and people had on his life.

Memories of Dad (1928-2003) - It has been ten years since our father, Daniel Schiavetta, left us. Those in Bethpage, who knew him, remember Danny in many ways: a former teacher; small businessman; member of the Saint Martin of Tours Holy Name Society; cigar aficionado; equal opportunity Mets and Yankee fan; decent golfer, past president of the Bethpage Rotary Club, and first president of the Central Park Historical Society.

Memories of the CPHS - The love, respect, and pride Danny had for our community was evident in all he did. He wanted to celebrate our hamlet and held the first Bethpage Day celebration. At this time, the Town of Oyster Bay issued a proclamation designating the 1st Saturday in October as Bethpage Day. We also had our picnics in the park, enjoyed the annual Harvest Moon Dinner, sold "T" shirts, and post cards. The Society flourished with interesting presentations which gave the townsfolk's the opportunity to reminisce about "the good ole days!"

Danny's respect for education is the reason the Historic Marker for the Powell Avenue School, located in front of the Bethpage Library on Powell Avenue, is sponsored by the Schiavetta Family.
