Peter Seitz, known to all as "Pete", retired in January 2000, after 25 years as head of Long Island's largest credit union, The Bethpage Federal Credit Union. The BFCU was, for years, synonymous with Grumman Corp., once its sole sponsor and only member.

Mr. Seitz joined the credit union in 1972, becoming its general manager in 1975 and was a great visionary. He led the credit union providing personalized high quality member service. Mr. Seitz took the credit union through the years of decline and downsizing of the defense industry that culminated in the creation of Northrop/ Grumman in 1994.

Information from NEWSDAY, February 1, 2000.

In a memo to his employees on January 31, 2000, Pete told us he would be leaving for Savannah and on to retirement. He left all with this message, " Never forget that the one thing that makes BFCU different from other financial institutions is that the member is the owner. Quality service, great rates and low fees make us special - and give reason for our existence. Keep this in mind when you do your work, and the bright light of success will shine here at BFCU forever. "
