The below information is taken from the Central Park Historical Society Newsletter, April, 2009.

The USGA returned to the Bethpage State Park, Black Course, June 15 - 21st.

A historic time for our community when the world will be focused on the Bethpage Black Course. There will be 20,000 bleacher seats set up to accommodate the 50,000 people from around the world who will watch the event each day. There will be 5700 volunteers. Many of the volunteers are local residents, and those who come from every state, except Hawaii, to be a part of the Open, as well as, 40 volunteers from different countries.

Parking for the spectators will, once again, be at Jones Beach State Park with a shuttle bus to the Open. There will be a shutle bus from the Farmingdale railroad station for those who arrive via LIRR. Volunteers will be assigned designated parking areas with shuttle buses to take them to their assigned area.

The running of the event is very well organized by the USGA with a minimum of disruption to the surrounding communities.
